St. Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen, has written to the Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox, seeking clarification on the criteria and distribution process in response to $2.9 million in home repair grants being distributed at a ceremony hosted by the Social Development and Family Services Ministry at the Upper El Dorado Community Centre on January 27th.
MP Ameen has concerns that a disproportionate number of grants appear to be allocated to marginal constituencies, which raises questions about fairness and transparency. In her letter to Minister Cox, MP Ameen stated, “I would be grateful if you could provide clarification on the specific eligibility requirements for these grants, as well as the process by which applications are reviewed and approved, in order for my office to better guide future applicants.”
MP Ameen has also called for an update on applications for the Minor House Repair Assistance Grant (MHRA) and the Sowing Entrepreneurial Enterprise Development Grant (SEED) offered under the National Social Development Programme (NSDP).
